Typography Choice

The final choice for our font is called 'Futura Condensed Extra Bold'; making sure all our media products have the same font is important as it increases synergy.

Audience Feedback: 3rd Draft (Final)

After the tedious completion of our music video, we uploaded the finished draft to YouTube. Without any prompt we actually received a very nice comment from a randomer who stumbled upon our video; he/she praised loads of things such as of editing and creativity, both of which we're proud of. In addition to this we decided to gather the third and final batch of audience feedback to conclude the collection. We asked our fellow peers and teachers what they thought of the finished product.

As with the 2nd Draft, the editing expertise was defintely amongst the highlights of the video, in the final draft we spent countless hours in free periods constantly improving slight little nit-picks and always asking our teacher what we need to do to ensure we secure that vital 'A' grade. The audience claimed that there was a clear sense of narrative and the mixture of Day + Night was executed much much better as opposed to the 2d Draft.

The audience really liked the "Bloom" filter which we obtained through Final Cut Pro X in the Pergola shots as it looks extremely surreal which is what we are going for as he is 'freeing his mind'.

Album Advert Analysis: Demon Days

This album cover by world famous group 'Gorillaz' is minimalisitc and doesn't include much excess information. This group is very versatile and has certianly dabbled in the genre of Hip-Hop before, although they are mainly alternative. This is similar to our own production as our song is clearly Hip-Hop although the aura surrounding the lyrics could be something of another genre, and thus we aren't forced to conform to Hip-Hop stereotypes. The groups name is located at the very top of the advert followed closelt by the album name right below that. The main piece of this album advert is actually the image located in the centre of it, which shows all four of the virtual band members facing sideways, slightly resembling shots as if they've been arrested; which matches the title of "Demon Days"

Album Advert Analysis: Kingdom Come

The album advert for Shawn Carter's ninth studio album "Kingdom Come" is quite simple yet it still manages to catch the readers eye and entise them. Firstly, the background image used is the actually album cover itself, with the resolution streched in order to fit on an advert. The catch-line reading "THE PRESIDENT OF HIP HOP RETURNS" is effective as Jay-Zs prior album was rumoured to be his 'retirement' album due to a few subliminal messages, the fact that he is returning makes this an extremely exciting prospect for anyone who enjoys his genre of music. This white font is in stark contrast to its black background and further emphasises how the album advert is eye-catching, my group and I will certainly make sure to acknowledge the use of colour as it can be extremely effective if used correctly.

Continuing with the semantic theme of colour, the main image in the middle is splashed with an aggressive red hue, carrying connotations of blood and violence along with it. Furthermore, Jay is dressed with a stereotypical Hip-Hop garment with the New York Yankees baseball cap. We could take inspiration from this as our performer is sporting a silver chain, making sure it is on show can help reinforce the genre to our target audience. As expected, the performers stage name is the largest piece of writing (in terms of font) on the entire advert taking up a huge proportion of it, it is probably the first thing that someone would see. Finally, the inclusion of the hit single towards the bottom of the screen is another stereotypical convention of album covers, it provides the viewer with one of the best songs of the allbum, luring them in to purchase it as it includes a song they possibly enjoy.

Album Cover

This album cover continues the recurring synergy of the anonymous masked charaters in our music video. We had to learn a few Adobe Photoshop techniques to successfully created this, including the 'magnetic lasso tool' which allowed us to mask multiple photos and crop them with pinpoint precision, further reinforcing the professional look

Website 2nd Draft (Final)

In this draft I added a news feed to the right of the home page, this will keep all the fans updated with all the latest information. I also made the album download below the fold, and put the music video above the fold as I've found out it is a common trope for modern websites. In addition, I also added 'anchors' which mean when a user clicks on one of the titles: e.g HOME, MUSIC, or GALLERY, it will directly scroll them down to the point of the website they want to access. This is good because most of traffic nowadays comes from mobile devices, and this will cater to them , it also feels really smooth and sleek, improving the overall quality of the website

Below the fold I added a section in which listeners can download the latest album, a gallery of many unseen pictures, as well as the tour section in which users can pre-order tickers for his 'Cypher' tour in fall 2019. The ambient music theme is optional and isn't promted upon the audience as it could drive them away, however i placed it right below the artists name in the top right for users whom would like to listen. The majority of information is on the HOME section as this is traditional in websites and the excess stuff for hardcore fans is below the fold. Overall it is very simplistic but also effective, I strongly belive that the aesthetic of the website very nicely fits the album advert and music video; the synergy is very clear and strong.

Filming Session: The Pergola

Due to our 2nd draft audience feedback we needed to get another performance to add to the studio and graffiti tunnel performances. We were told about this location from our peers and after doing some research we decided it would be a fantastic location to add more of a sunny theme into our video as opposed to strictly night, which was seen mostly in the 2nd draft.

Prior to leaving and filming at the location, we made sure to fill out a filming permission slip in order to ensure that we are able to film the entirity of our shots in one session without being asked to leave as it isn't public property.

Upon arriving we got multiple shots including a few in which our performer is on a balcony from mulitple positions; with these shots we are aiming to implement a shot where we clone the singer and see multiple versions of him. We also recorded another masked character scene as our audience didn't really like the grafitti masks scene as they believed it broke continuity. This is because the performer continues to perform as if nothing happened even after being disturbed by the clones which doesn't make that much sense. Finally we recorded an entire performance in which the artist is walking around the beautiful Pergola, down some stairs etc.

Overall, it was an extremely effective filming session that has put us much closer to our final product.
